I use Sophos to double-check truth for posts, especially on Facebook.
Just wish there were more vocal sources out there for things like the OU Daily, which often misquotes folks and misleads readers (one small example being a certain reporter at the Daily asking questions to get her specific angle on a story - even if that pre-decided angle completely contradicts the truth of what is said).
Great article, Tom. It's good stuff and very practical.
Me and many others just hope for the day that the Daily consistently considers their own sources. And ethics.
I know this is a tangent, but people are getting kind of impatient with the lack of accountability in The Daily.

Is this in the Opinion section? Whatever happened to their being two sides to a story. Good job only getting one side interviewing Morgan (if the author did), and throwing in the stacked cards. Real strong stuff there.

It is interesting that so many pro-744 ads deem those opposing it as anti-education- apparently both our gubernatorial candidates fall under this label, as does at least one of our candidates for State Superintendent (while Paddack refuses to take a stance on the question; not the best sign of leadership).
The ads and the 744 propaganda also discuss the large amounts of money that is spent poorly in the state government. It's definitely true- unfortunately Oklahoma hasn't been budgeting as well as it should (at all). But 744 does not fix a bad budget. It does not enforce standards on spending, incredulous tax credits, or otherwise. Rather, 744 says we can afford it "if..."
That's a pretty big "if," I think.
I'm all for more accountability when it comes to both education and how our tax dollars are spent. That is why I, and many teachers and students who are aware of the issues- on either side of the isle- are voting no on 744.
It is more than just the university losing out, it is the idea that a measure like this will distract from what really matters- real accountability in the classroom. Just because there is a money allocation measure and education is tied to it, does not mean it is automatically a good thing for either the state or education. It also does not mean that those opposing the measure are against education.
I understand at least the intentions behind 744, and I encourage both research and questions on either end of the debate- people should check out the question as it will appear on the ballot online, as well as both sides' reasons for why the measure should or should not be passed.
But I hope we keep in mind the facts, and not just easy rhetoric tying bad spending with good intentions.

This seems like a great club- I'm excited about the opportunities and creativity it seems like it's offering.
I like that they incorporated Quidditch. That's something the Walker RSA and members of HCSA (student organizations revolving around Housing, advocacy, and activities) have been working on since the start of the semester. The timeliness of this is great, with HP7 coming out so soon.
I look forward to checking out this club's activities, and expecting that same enthusiasm to be applied to our own! Good job, guys!

Tractorman- Hateful? Venom?
Compare your comment with the letter and other comments.
Just because something written isn't your exact point of view and argues against another, doesn't automatically make it hateful.
Think a reaction is written badly or angrily?
Look at yours. While neither side of comments are perfect, your seems to stand out as just some name-calling, condescending, one-sided little rant, while at least some of the others on either side had a little base for argument in it.
Have fun with your fallacies and middle-school tirades.
(Sorry if that was 'venomous'.. you're the judge on what's hateful and what's not, so you know better than all of us, apparently).

lol, at TylerBranson.
The drawing, if not a little odd for me, is alright, but can you maybe get the humor idea from someone else? Others do it. Some people write. Some people draw. Teamwork.
Just.. not this kinda' 'joking' anymore..
It's embarassing. ><

I liked this article.
Good luck with the ants, and hopefully in the process of taking steps to get rid of that problem, things get even better beyond just the lack of ants.
Clean mugs, more attainable to use, no ants, feel-good feelin' about making an easy habit of cleaning those mugs (or at least a, "Ah, no ants.. cool.." feeling), and more.
I'd think that your broader example, our economy and the way things are in general, follows that pattern, too.
We use money wisely, spend it when we need to (and even when we don't sometimes, of course), and keeping track of our money and mug, versus letting it get dirty and way behind, and then hopefully there won't be any ant-like nuisances to follow.
Good deal.

I agree that there could definitely be something better planned for the theater. Even though I consider the thing as good as vacant, I always liked the 'BOOMER'. Even if it stays, seems like it could do better than burritos.
Though, I love me some Chipotle.
I'm also with JJanowiak on this one. I don't see a theater of any kind being there, especially with parking.
All the same, if a burrito joint is all we can get for now, then I'll take it.

The juice is a lie!
I mean uh... I say we open our arms to these furried friends.. they're the best.. amazing!! (if it gets me a spot in an elevated place where I'm not acting as a squirrely slave.. though, uhm, that would be fine, too!! if saying that doesn't get me killed..)
I'll think twice about conflicting with Conker and Rocky.
That said.. I wish the squirrels would at least give us the right-of-way when strolling on the Price Walk.. I mean, come on.. we have class!! They just.. get acor- uhm.. they have a very strong, salient schedule, too, I'm sure.. but uhm.. OK, I'm done now.
