Reneé Selanders is a journalism senior returning to The Oklahoma Daily/OUDaily.com as Managing Editor.
Reneé previously worked as a Copy Editor, Diversity Beat Reporter and Co-News Editor for The Daily. She interned at The Oklahoma Gazette in summer 2008, where two of her biggest articles featured as cover stories for the weekly, magazine-style publication. She participated in the Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism as a Fellow in 2005 and again as Chief Counselor in summer 2009.
In addition to her involvement with OU Student Media, Reneé worked in Washington, D.C., in summer 2010 as a Ewing Fellow. She received the Cortez A.M. Ewing Fellowship from the political science department and spent the summer interning in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Reneé is an Ambassador to Gaylord College, a McMahon Journalism Scholar, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and a Henderson Scholar, a volunteering scholarship organization for ethnic minority students. She has received the Latino Academic Achievement Award the past three years, and is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
In addition to studying journalism at OU, Reneé completed her Spanish minor at the Universidad de Viña del Mar during fall 2009 in Chile and studied Postmodern British Literature abroad at Oxford University in July 2009. She will complete her economics minor in spring 2011.
Reneé will graduate in May 2011, and plans to pursue an internship and then attend graduate school.
