Polling data paints a grim picture of American intellectualism: we’re reading less than we used to, from a diminished variety of sources and for reasons that are increasingly external. Twitter, Yahoo Answers and Wikipedia, with their condensed, regurgitated and highly-processed versions of knowledge, have become our primary sources for information. Because of it, more people are reading less, both in quantity and quality, and it’s making us dumber by the second.
