Emily Hopkins

Emily Hopkins is a journalism and political science freshman from Edmond, Oklahoma. She was editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper for two years and was a participant in both OU’s Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism and in The Oklahoman’s Newsroom 101, the latter of which named her the Ann DeFrange Outstanding Young Journalist. She has received numerous awards from Oklahoma Scholastic Media and in 2010 was named Writer of the Year. She served as an editorial intern for The Oklahoma Gazette in the spring semester of 2010 and continues to periodically freelance for the metro alt-weekly. Her feature piece on the increasing popularity of parkour was the May 19 cover story for the independent newspaper. In March 2010 she traveled to Washington, D.C. to represent Oklahoma at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Conference and received a scholarship from the program’s namesake and USA Today founder. This fall she will be an intern on the OU Daily’s News desk.
