OU men's golf: Sooners tied for 14th after first round of NCAA Championships

The No. 1 seed Sooners finished the first round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships on Friday at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with a total team score of 305 (+17), tied for 14th place.

Oklahoma freshman Patrick Welch led the Sooners with a 75 (+3) and sits tied for 36th individually. Seniors Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale tied for 53rd after a first round score of 76 (+4).

No. 1 seed Oklahoma State leads all teams with a score of 290 (+2). Other Big 12 teams in action in Fayetteville are Texas (8th), TCU (T-24th) and Baylor (29th).

After 54 holes, the top 15 teams and top nine individuals not from a qualifying team advance to play one more stroke-play round on Monday. The top eight teams after Monday advance for match-play to determine the champion.

The Sooners, who are making their ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, begin the second round on Saturday at 7:12 a.m. They’ll be paired with Texas and Vanderbilt.
