Oklahoma is ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 preseason poll, released Wednesday. The Sooners received 68 out of 77 first place votes.

The ranking comes after the Sooners' second consecutive season with a 12-2 record and a College Football Playoff appearance. Oklahoma lost to Alabama, 45-34, to end their season.

For 2019, the Sooners have Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts as their presumed starting quarterback. Hurts won SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016, and was named preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.

Oklahoma is bringing in new defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, who plans to implement a defense focused on speed and forcing turnovers. Junior linebacker Kenneth Murray will look to be the star of the defense, as he was named preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
