In his MLB debut, former Sooners infielder Jack Mayfield went 1-for-4 with an RBI to help the Houston Astros to a 6-5 win against the Chicago Cubs.

Mayfield spent almost six years in the minors before being called up from Triple-A Round Rock, but wasted no time picking up his first hit, ripping a double off the left field wall in his first major league at-bat. Mayfield later grounded out to score Yuli Gurriel as part of a five run third inning.
Mayfield hit .265 for the Sooners from 2010-13 and was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 member his senior year. The Del Rio, Texas, native signed as an undrafted free agent with the Astros in 2013.
