Former Oklahoma softball infielder Lauren Chamberlain was named the Big 12’s Female Athlete of the Year Monday, the league office announced.
Chamberlain ended her four-year career in Norman as the NCAA’s all-time leader in homeruns (95) and slugging percentage (.960). She set the home run mark at North Texas April 30 with at-bat No. 584.
She was nominated for the 2015 ‘Best Record Breaking Performance’ ESPY. She was also nominated for the 2015 Honda Sports Award for softball.
Chamberlain earned All-American honors in each of her four seasons at OU, including three first-team ballots. She is just the second Sooner ever to achieve the feat.
Kansas State wide receiver Tyler Lockett was named Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year alongside Chamberlain. Nominees for the honor are submitted by each Big 12 school and selected based on athletic and academic achievement by a media panel as well as fan voting, according to the conference.
