Mayfield throws the ball

Senior quarterback Baker Mayfield throws a deep pass in the game against Baylor Sept. 23.

The No. 3 Sooners (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) defeated Baylor (0-4, 0-1 Big 12) 49-41 in a less than stellar performance, giving up significant yardage and getting called for 10 penalties

Oklahoma started fast with two quick touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead, but the momentum didn't last. Problems started adding up primarily on defense, creating a back-and-forth game the Sooners, and senior quarterback Baker Mayfield's trash talking, weren't expecting.

Nonetheless, Mayfield still posted decent numbers to add to his Heisman campaign. Mayfield went 13-of-19 for 283 yards and three touchdowns, despite the sloppiness of the win. He also passed former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford for most career touchdown passes, moving to No. 2 in Sooner record books.
