Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic was named 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year over Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young Monday night in the third annual NBA Awards show.

Doncic — who received 98 out of 100 first place votes over Young and Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton — was first among rookies in points per game with 21.2, second in assists with 6 and third in rebounds with 7.8. Prior to his NBA rookie season, Doncic played for Real Madrid in Spain, where he won the 2018 Euroleague MVP.

Former Oklahoma star Young averaged 19.1 points on 41.8 percent shooting and led all rookies in assists with 8.1. In his lone season as a Sooner, he led the nation in points and assists with 27.4 and 8.7, respectively.
