Beau Titsworth, university college freshman, stands on the Jimmy Austin Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 18 where he spends his time practicing. Titsworth, an 18-year-old native of Cleveland, Ohio chose to come to OU because of the great things he had heard about his coach, Ryan Hybl. Titsworth has placed top 20 in both tournaments this year and plans to compete as much as possible in the best fields there are in golf.
The Sooners men's golf team finished eighth in a field of 15 teams this weekend at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship held on the Brickyard at Riverside in Macon, Ga.
Finishing highest for the Sooners, freshman Beau Titsworth carded a 215 (-1) for the tournament, which was good for a tie for 14th to notch his third consecutive top-20 finish. His second round 69 (-3) was the low round for the Sooners throughout the tournament.
Junior Michael Schoolcraft finished tied for 17th with a three-round total of 216 (E) in his third tournament of the year. Schoolcraft’s best round came on the second day of competition when he carded a strong 70 (-2) to put himself in position for a top-10, but scored 73 (+1) in his first and third rounds to drop him to 17th.
Sophomore Michael Gellerman finished tied for 25 at 219 (+3). He scored a solid tournament, carding 74 (+2), 72 (E) and a final round total of 73 (+1).
Abraham Ancer, Ssnior and team co-captain, scored a lackluster 228 (+12) for the tournament. After a 79 (+7) in the first round, Ancer carded 151 (+5) over his final two rounds of competition.
Freshman Eloy Gonzalez, in his second tournament of the year, finished with a three-round total of 234 (+18). Gonzalez scored 159 (+15) through two rounds of competition then came back to score a 75 (+3) in the final round to bring him to his tied for 77th finish.
The Sooners now will shift their focus to Oct. 29th when the team travels to Dallas for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate tournament.
