Official expects Norman construction projects to be completed by August
Two ongoing construction projects in Norman are both scheduled to be completed by August, according to a city official.
The East Lindsey Street widening project is scheduled for completion at the end of June, said Shawn O’Leary, director of Norman Public Works.
The new sidewalks on each side of the street are 10 feet wide.
“The sidewalks will be multimodal to provide for all forms of transportation,” O’Leary said. “Sidewalks in Norman are typically only 5 feet wide; 10 feet provides enough space for all.”
The project started in June last year and cost the city of Norman $5.4 million.
The Robinson Street underpass is set for completion in August, eight months after an original completion date set for December 2011. The contractor experienced a number of delays with the railroad company.
“The need [for an underpass] was identified many years ago,” O’Leary said. “There are 38 trains a day, one every 26 minutes.”
The new underpass will make it easier to drive east and west across Norman without waiting on a train. The project began June 2010.
