Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant opened for business Tuesday at its location on North Interstate Drive in Norman and was packed with people of all ages interested in trying the cuisine.
The restaurant, 760 N. Interstate Dr., was prepared for the rush of new business, manager Carl McCauley said.
“We were pretty sure that it was going to be really busy today,” McCauley said. “So we’ve got a lot of people working.”
The restaurant hired 173 staff members, all of them local and many of them students at OU, McCauley said.
Employees were prepped for the opening with six full days of training focused on customer relations and the restaurant menu, McCauley said.
“We came in for a week before we opened and tasted every product on the menu,” said Shiloh Odom, Chuy’s bartender. “They also let me sample the drinks so I knew what I was selling.”
Odom said employees are trained to keep their station clean, help the each customer’s every need and have fun.
“We’ve decorated the restaurant appropriately for Norman with a Crimson paint job and Sooner-themed apparel,” McCauley said.
