OKC farmers market to host a FEAST of local foods to celebrate health, nutrition
People looking to celebrate local food, health and nutrition can take part in a day of appreciation scheduled for Saturday in Oklahoma City.
FEAST: Food Education, Awareness and Security Transfer will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Horticulture Pavilion of the Oklahoma State University-OKC campus, 400 N Portland Ave. The event is in conjunction with the regular Farmers Market.
Vendors from the food industry will be on hand to educate attendees about food and nutrition choices and options.
FEAST is a free event that will highlight food available in Oklahoma, demonstrate food preparation and teach people how to understand food labels, according to the event details.
From noon to 1 p.m., officials will announce new cookbooks for the "Farm to School" program, which encourages farmers to sell produce to schools and educates school officials on how to buy and prepare food from farmers.
The event is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry and the State Department of Health.
For more information about the FEAST event, contact Kirby Smith at 521-6479 or kirby.smith@ag.ok.gov.
