Softball: Sooners defeat Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-3, on Saturday

The OU softball team battled from a one-run deficit in the second inning to beat Iowa, 6-3, in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Hall of Fame stadium in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners outhit the Hawkeyes 9-5, including two runs in the sixth inning courtesy of junior catcher Jessica Shults’ two-run bomb after sophomore Destinee Martinez led off the inning with a single up the middle.

Junior pitcher Michelle Gascoigne started on the mound for the Sooners, giving up five hits and three runs in the first 4.2 innings. Junior pitcher Keilani Ricketts finished the final innings, striking out 6-of-7 batters faced to earn the save.

OU improved to 13-3 and is currently riding a four-game win streak going into an 11 a.m. rematch against Iowa Sunday in Norman.
