Construction on Dale Hall parking lot to begin Friday, official says
AT A GLANCE
Construction on the parking lot behind Dale and Copeland halls, or Faculty/Staff lot A25, will begin Friday and last until about July 24, an OU Parking Services spokeswoman said.
Half the lot will be closed at a time to place a sealant on the lot, which should take a few days for each side, OU Parking spokeswoman Vicky Holland said. Some spaces are currently closed for departments moving back into Dale Hall Tower.
OU's asphalt lots are seal-coated every three years, Holland said. She said most parking lot maintenance is completed during the summer, when fewer students are on campus.
Other parking lots under construction are former site of Rhyne Hall and the C8 commuter lot at Brooks Street and Jenkins Avenue, which are being merged to create 58 new spots. This is expected to be completed by the beginning of the fall semester, Holland said.
Some metered lots along Asp Avenue in front of the stadium also are closed this summer for resurfacing work, Holland said.
Maintenance costs are determined by the cost of the materials, labor and the condition of the lot, she said. If the lot has experienced a great deal of deterioration, more prep will be required before the seal coating can be applied.
"We have not received the cost for this year, but each lot can typically cost from $5,000 and up," Holland said. "Repainting each lot needs to be figured in the cost as well, and we have no estimate on that yet."
