Those who identify with non-binary gender labels will be able to join a new Norman group for support.

“We actually haven’t named the group, but we just call it a support group for gender queer, gender non conforming, transgendered, gender-neutral, or gender questioning,” said Lisa Frey, director of the OU counseling psychology clinic.

The first meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. July 10 at the OU Counseling Psychology Clinic, Room 180, 3200 Marshall Ave.

Frey said she was approached by several people in the community interested in having a group like this available.

“This is a population that is often marginalized, so we are trying to provide a safe space for them to talk about the challenges in their life and also the good things as well and build a support system,” Frey said. “Because it is a support group we want it to be ran by the group as a whole, not solely one person in the group.”

The first meeting should last about an hour or an hour and a half, Frey said. Then after the group will meet weekly.
