Not sure wether to go with an apartment or house? Living guide weighs the pros and cons for you.
The Ultimate Battle: Apartment vs. House
House
• Bring your pet(s).
• Save your car from the Oklahoma weather by putting it in a garage.
• Have your own backyard to hangout and throw parties.
• Don’t have those annoying people who stomp around upstairs.
• More space for living and storage.
• You make the rules about what happens at your house.
What people like:
“I like the free space we have around the house and even in the yard. Having a house to yourself offers a sense of relaxation and freedom that I don’t think apartment complexes do,” says Kyle Whalen, theatre dramaturgy sophomore.
What people want:
“I want a house with a garage. Most apartments don’t have covered parking,” says Matthew Cohagan, mechanical engineering sophomore.
Apartments
While apartments provide cheap, close quarters, the community environment and roommate situation can be disadvantageous.
• If something breaks it’s not your responsibility to fix it, there is an on site maintenance staff that can do it for you.
• Most apartments come furnished.
• This is a big money saver as couches are expensive.
• Amenities often include a pool, hot tub and work out facility.
• No yard work.
• Don’t worry about finding a parking spot on campus just take the shuttle from your apartment.
• However, you don’t have as much space as a house.
What people like:
“I am close to campus and I have my own room and bathroom. There is not a lot of room, but it works,” says Brock Cox, political science sophomore.
What people want:
“I want an apartment with a nice kitchen and enough bathrooms so I don’t have to share. I also want it to be in a good area that is safe and close to campus,” says Becky Richmond, freshman from Dallas.
