OU football coach named Big 12 Recruiter of the Year
by   |  February 7, 2012  |

OU wide receiver coach Jay Norvell was named the Big 12 Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com Tuesday.

The announcement came after Norvell helped land one of the top receiver classes in the history of the Rivals.com rankings. The co-offensive coordinator was able to hold on to Trey Metoyer, the No. 2-ranked receiver in the nation from 2011, after he headed to prep school for a semester.

He also gained a commitment from No. 9-ranked Durron Neal. The Sooners beat out Missouri and Alabama to gain Neal’s services for the 2012 season. Norvell also landed two high school All-Americans in Derrick Woods and Oklahoma native Sterling Shepard.

Then, to top it all off, highly-touted junior college receiver Courtney Gardner switched from his Arkansas commitment to sign with Oklahoma on signing day.

Oklahoma offensive tackle and tight end coach Bruce Kittle also landed on Rivals.com’s list as the fifth-best recruiter in the conference. Kittle landed four of the nation’s top tight end prospects to round out a class full of new targets for senior quarterback Landry Jones.
