OU School of Dance ballet to perform in Austria
Today through Aug. 12, the OU School of Dance’s Oklahoma Festival Ballet will participate in the 37th Annual Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria.
Fourteen dancers from the ballet, along with choreographers, a stage manager, a lighting designer and patrons, will make the trip to Austria.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the ballet will perform in the Austrian premiere of Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation” with original dances created by School of Dance director Mary Margaret Holt and faculty member Steve Brule.
“International tours like the one to Eisenstadt are of great importance to our dancers’ pre-professional experience as they learn to adjust to differences in tour venues and to expand their experience with dance as an international language,” Holt said.
Walter Reicher, president of the Classical Music Festival, invited the ballet to perform in Austria after seeing its American premiere of "The Creation" on April 14.
