Jay Norvell says receivers ready to fill suspended WR Trey Franks' spot
OU coach Bob Stoops announced Tuesday afternoon that sophomore wide receiver Trey Franks was suspended indefinitely due to team policy violations. Franks was listed as the No. 3 wide receiver on the Sooners' depth chart, but wide receiver coach Jay Norvell made it no secret the team had several players ready to fill the empty slot.
“Dejuan (Miller) and Jaz (Reynolds) have practiced well," Norvell said. "Kameel Jackson is a guy that we want to play this year. He shows a lot of promise and does a lot of great things on the field. We brought Justin McCay up today, and he’s going to get reps from the varsity. We’ve got a lot of good young talent that will get their opportunity.“
And Norvell is confident any one of these young players could step up to fill Frank's void by watching and learning from the current wide receivers.
“The younger ones see the older guys doing it right; that helps them mature. For guys like Kameel to see Kenny (Stills) and Ryan (Broyles), that helps him learn as a player.”
