Texas Tech offense still has passing threat, Stoops says
by   |  October 17, 2011  |

During Texas Tech coach Tommy Tubberville's first year in Lubbock last year, he directed the Red Raiders to establish more of a running game in their usually pass-heavy offensive scheme.

However, OU coach Bob Stoops said Texas Tech is still very capable of slinging the ball around and scoring points fast.

“They’ve been highly productive offensively,” Stoops said. “They've had more snaps, I think, than anybody in the country. The quarterback has been playing really well, completing 70 percent of his balls and scoring and getting a bunch of yards. So they’ve been very productive.”

The defense played a solid game in its last contest against Kansas. However, this week will be somewhat of an adjustment, as last week the defense was focusing on a game plan to stop the Jayhawks’ run-heavy offense.

Senior defensive end Frank Alexander said keeping the quarterback out of rhythm would be key, but he said it could be a challenge considering how fast junior quarterback Seth Doege likes to get rid of the ball.

“Their quarterback, he’s kind of got a quick release,” Alexander said. “They’re three steps and getting it out of there.”

The 6-0 Sooners host the 4-2 Red Raiders at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman.
