Former Sooner running back DeMarco Murray, OU’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards, is continuing his record-setting career at the next level.
Against fellow former Sooner Sam Bradford’s St. Louis Rams on Oct. 23, Murray shattered the Dallas Cowboys franchise record for rushing yards in a game by gaining 253 yards from 25 carries. That’s more than Hall of Famers Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith ever gained while wearing the star.
The previous franchise record — held by Smith — was 237 yards against the Eagles in 1993.
Murray didn’t stop there. Thanks to a 139-yard game against Seattle on Sunday, Murray’s three-game rushing total is 466 yards, topping another Smith record (446 in 1993).
Stoops was pleased to hear one of his former players is doing so well at the professional level.
“Just really happy for him — we all are,” Stoops said. “I’ve got a lot of favorites, but [DeMarco’s] up there will all of them. You talk about a very unselfish team guy that was always about the team and a great worker here.
"I’m really elated for him — all of us are — that he’s doing so well.”
