GROVE, Okla. — A tornado may have struck Delaware County as major storms hit portions of eastern Oklahoma, damaging mobile homes and several buildings near West Siloam Springs, officials said Monday. No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service is sending investigators to the region to verify whether a tornado was part of the storm system that swept through the region late Sunday, meteorologist Joe Sellers in Tulsa said.

Emergency teams are also being sent to the area Monday to help assess damage reported in Grove, Zena and Bernice, Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Michelann Ooten said.

State emergency officials also dispatched workers to Joplin, Mo., as assessments and clean-up work began after a tornado slammed into the city, killing at least 89 people.

The Tulsa Police Department’s Disaster Response Team sent eight team members to help at Joplin, and the state Health Department said Health Department workers equipped with ambulances were dispatched after Missouri sent out a call for assistance.

The chance for more severe weather in the region will continue through Tuesday, Sellers said.

“It could be another repeat; severe storms are possible along the Kansas and Oklahoma border. It looks like it’s mainly going to stay in Kansas, but it could spread, with large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes possible.”
