by   |  May 19, 2011  |

An OU graduate student received a $90,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to research flash flood prediction improvements across the country.

Water resources engineering graduate student Gina Hodges will apply her experience in meteorology, hydrology and social sciences to develop better flash flood detection methods, according to a press release. The goal of Hodges’ study is to create a system to identify specific locations about to be impacted by flash floods.

Hodges’ methods to improve flood detection will be applied to areas that experienced severe flooding during spring 2010, including Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee, according to a press release. Hodges will receive $30,000 a year for three years for her research, according to a press release.
