Sooners take advantage of summer living options
by   |  May 18, 2011  |

More than 100 students are living in the residence halls this summer, an increase from 20 students the year before, said Lauren Royston, Housing and Food spokeswoman.

Students living on campus for the summer began moving into Cate Center on May 15, one of the two summer living options on campus, Royston said.

“They are the closest residence halls to the South Oval, so it gives students quicker access to those classrooms,” Royston said.

Traditions Square, a fully furnished apartment community, is the other living option for students taking summer classes, Royston said.

Law student Dylan Erwin said he is satisfied with the student living options on campus.

“I think it’s excellent that they offer two options because Cate and Traditions are so different,” Erwin said. “Those options show that the university really does care about its students because they want to make sure that they are giving students what they want, what they need,”

Part of the reason Housing and Food is housing residents in Cate is because many of the residence halls house summer campers and conference attendees during the summer, Royston said.

“Living next door to your classes is really convenient,” Eric Ray said. Ray is a sophomore staying on campus to take Biochemistry and Quantitative Analysis to finish his chemistry minor.

“I’d live in any campus housing facility; it’s all good to me,” Ray said.
