Students can meet with student government representatives and spring election candidates today during “An Evening with UOSA.”
At the event, students will be able to meet with the representatives and candidates for UOSA presidential and vice presidential positions, Campus Activities Council chair and Housing Center Student Association president, event coordinator Alyssa Loveless said.
“It’s an opportunity for students to get to know their representatives in student government and voice any concerns they may have,” said Loveless, human relations junior.
“An Evening with UOSA” was conceived as a meeting between students and UOSA presidential and vice presidential representatives and candidates, but Loveless said it was expanded to include candidates and representatives from CAC and the Housing Center Student Association.
At 7 p.m. the candidates will participate in a question-and-answer forum with students, Loveless said.
To participate, students must submit their question in writing on cards that will be provided, Loveless said.
Joshua Landis, Walker Center Faculty-in-Residence, will moderate the forum.
Forums like “An Evening With UOSA” present opportunities for students to learn more about the people and organizations that represent them on campus, said Landis, Center for Middle Eastern Studies director.
“This is one of the best events we do,” Landis said. “We hope to field all kinds of questions during and help students get a better idea of what the candidates are all about.”
UOSA President Franz Zenteno said the event is a chance for students to stress priorities the future UOSA president and vice president should focus on next year.
“Campaigning as a whole requires attending many different events in order to get your word out,” Zenteno said. “This is a great opportunity for all candidates to share their projects with the student body.”
“An Evening With UOSA” is open to all students and food will be provided, according to a press release.
