The OU School of Drama debuted its rendition of "Around the World in 80 Days" Tuesday at the OU Lab Theatre.

Directed by Robert Woods and produced by Judith Pender, OU's "Around the World in 80 Days" is performed by the Soonerstock Summer Theatre Company 2011, a 10-person company selected earlier this spring. The play will be the first of two performed by the troupe this summer, with "The Secret Garden" coming later this month.

Both productions are geared toward children, drama sophomore Brooke Reynolds said. The traditional play doesn't always translate well to a younger audience, but Wood's version has been an effective alteration, Reynolds said.

The play, adapted from Jules Verne's classic novel and American playwright Mark Brown's later interpretation, will continue to hit OU's summer stage with 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. matinees Thursday and 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m. productions Friday.

The play will then run 10 a.m. showings Saturday and Tuesday through June 24.
