Norman is gearing up for the fifth annual Dump the Pump event, which encourages the use of the Cleveland Area Rapid Transit system in order to reduce pollution levels, according to OU’s website.
An 8 a.m. bus route, during which riders will receive free T-shirts, will kick off the Thursday, June 16 event, according to CART’s website. Dump the Pump festivities will end with a 6 p.m. concert at Andrews Park, featuring the Oklahoma City band zero2sixty, according to CART’s website.
Free bus fare and free T-shirts will be given out throughout the day.
A major goal of Dump the Pump is to increase visibility for Norman’s public transportation system, CART spokeswoman Vicky Holland said.
“We are affordable, we are green,” Holland said.
The CART public transit system is vital to many individuals in the Norman community, Holland said.
“We have people that we take daily to doctor’s appointments and the grocery store,” Holland said of CART. “We’re their only mode of transportation. There are people who rely on us.”
