OU women's basketball coach Sherri Coale’s go-to guard, Danielle Robinson, was awarded her first Big 12 Player of the Week honor this season, the conference announced Monday.
The senior preseason All-American averaged 25 points, five steals and four rebounds in OU’s wins over Kansas State and Texas last week.
Robinson scored 20 points — one of two Sooners to score in double digits — and collected three steals during the game against the Wildcats.
After starting off 3-for-16 from the field against the Texas Longhorns, Robinson helped spark a 16-4 run to put the Sooners back in the lead during the second half. Once Robinson shook off the shooting dust from the first half, the San Jose, Calif., native came back to collect a game-high 30 points to help the Sooners to a 71-67 win over the Longhorns in overtime.
Robinson is fourth in the Big 12 in points, averaging 19 per game. Robinson also is fourth in the conference in assists, averaging 5.38 per game.
Robinson’s award marks the first time an OU player has received the Player of the Week honor this season. Freshmen guards Aaryn Ellenberg and Morgan Hook both received Big 12 Freshmen of the Week honors already this season, with Ellenberg collecting her second last week.
