Sooners to host competitive Nebraska squad for last time
by   |  February 16, 2011  |

After a four-game winning streak, the Sooner men's basketball team has hit a three-game losing streak and looks to change its fortune Wednesday night against the Nebraska Cornhusker in Lloyd Noble Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

The Cornhuskers, who are tied for eighth in the Big 12 with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, snapped their three-game losing streak Saturday against OSU. Nebraska will be led into Norman by senior guard Lance Jeter, who is fourth in the conference in assists — right above Sooner guard Carl Blair.

Oklahoma will be led into this game by sophomore Andrew Fitzgerald, who has been OU’s most reliable player, averaging 13.6 points per game and shooting 51.2 percent from the field, good for fifth in the conference.

Nebraska’s soft nonconference schedule proved to be no help to them as they started the season 12-2 before going 4-6 in their last season in the Big 12.

Oklahoma — who has proven it loves the confines of Lloyd Noble, losing only two games at home this season — is looking to send the Cornhuskers out of the Big 12 with a loss.

The Sooners will rely heavily on their defensive intensity and will look for one of the other four starters to give them good numbers on the offensive end for them to pull this one out.

It will be a tough battle for OU, but they have been learning from all their games and can put that knowledge and experience to use down the back stretch of Big 12 play.

This game also is the Mascot Birthday Party, so Boomer and Sooner will be celebrating with a special halftime performance.

The game will be televised on ESPNU and ESPN3.com
