An informational meeting for a six-credit, study-abroad trip to Latin America will be held at noon Friday in the Education Abroad office.
The meeting will cover “The Journey to Latin America,” a summer study-abroad program to Peru in its third year at OU. This program offers not only a trip to Peru, but six hours of general-education credit to any student who attends. There also are no foreign language prerequisites required.
The courses will be taught in English by OU professors Charles Kenney and Tassie Hirschfeld.
“The program is designed to create an opportunity for students at OU ... to try to get people abroad who otherwise might not be able to do so,” Kenney said.
The estimated cost of the trip will be approximately $3,140 plus the cost of six hours of tuition and fees, according to study abroad’s website. However, OU will give each participant $1,000 to help pay for the trip.
The trip will consist of three components:
• students will travel to the capital city of Lima
• the mountain Machu Picchu
• and the Amazon Rainforest, according to the website.
This opportunity is available to all students. Those interested can find applications online. The application requires a $35 nonrefundable fee, background information, a statement of interest and a letter of recommendation.
If students miss this meeting, another will be will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Education Abroad office.
