COLUMN: Broyles brushed off for Biletnikoff
by   |  December 9, 2011  |

Ryan Broyles should have won the Biletnikoff Award on Thursday based on his stellar season.

My hat is off to Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon, who joins former Texas Tech wideout Michael Crabtree as the only players to win the award twice.

But it should have gone to Broyles. Had the Norman native not suffered a season-ending injury with three games remaining in the season, the choice would have been obvious.

Still, I think he did enough in nine games to show he was the best receiver in the country this year. Forget all the school records he owns, forget the NCAA record for career receptions he owns, forget what he’s meant to the OU program in his four years in Norman.

Look at his stats this year alone.

Despite missing three games, he still sits among the best in total receptions (17th), total yards (16th), touchdowns (23rd), catches per game (fifth) and yards per game (fourth).

But his OU career ended too soon, and he didn’t collect the hardware. Still, he will be missed in Norman.
