Holiday Pipes to take place Dec. 11
by   |  December 2, 2011  |

This season, the sixth annual holiday music concert Holiday Pipes will take place Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.

OU Organ Professor John Schwandt will be playing on the M.P. Möller Municipal Organ in the Sharp Concert Hall located in the Catlett Music Center, where the concert will take place.

This performance will feature many holiday songs, all of which will be played on the organ. It will be a unique experience, because guests at the show will have the opportunity to request the holiday songs they’d like to hear, and Schwandt will add a unique twist to songs in the performance.

“The music won’t be performed until that very moment,” Schwandt said. “It’s all improvisation.”

Schwandt has passionately played the organ for about 30 years and hopes to share his appreciation for the organ with others at this event.

“I can’t remember a time I didn’t want to play the organ.”

Schwandt believes that guests will enjoy themselves and hopes they will want to come back and hear another concert in the coming years.

Schwandt has not only played for a few decades now, but he has also played all around the United States, as well as in Germany. He loves teaching his organ students and really believes this concert will be enjoyable and entertaining for everyone to experience.

“Nothing like this happens; if people want a unique experience this is it,” Schwandt explained. “It’ll be a great experience for those who have never attended an organ concert.”

If you are interested in attending, tickets are $9 for adults, and $5 for OU students, faculty and staff and seniors. You can purchase them at the Fine Arts box office. This performance will be hosted by the OU School of Music.
