Union Programming Board gets feedback through social media
by   |  August 4, 2011  |

The Union Programming Board is taking advantage of social media networks to get advice from students as to what events they want to see throughout the year.

This year, and in years past, the UPB has been reaching out to students through social media networks like Facebook and Twitter, as well as word-of-mouth and email, board president Matthew Farley said.

This year, responses seem to have almost doubled. The reason why is unclear, but it is a welcome change, Farley said.

The board is responsible for many free student events like comedy shows, concerts, movies and parties, Farley said.

Because the the board works on a budget, it tries to catch up-and-coming comedians and musicians before they break out, Farley said. Great examples of this include Mitch Hedberg, Daniel Tosh and Ben Folds, Farley said.

This year, students should expect more events and the return of successful events like the Zombie 5K, which was featured on ESPN last year, Farley said.
