OU chilled water plant repaired ahead of schedule
by   |  August 1, 2011  |

An underground leak discovered in one of OU's chilled water plants Friday was repaired ahead of schedule Saturday, without buildings losing air conditioning.

The oldest chilled water plant at OU lost its normal 4,000 tons of chilling capacity after a hole was discovered in an underground pipe Friday, said Brian Ellis director of Facilities Management. The chilled water plants are used to air condition buildings on campus, Ellis said.

Workers worked from 8 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday to repair the hole, Ellis said. Temporary chillers were in place while the chilled water plant was out of commission, Ellis said.

More corrosion was found on the pipes underground, and Facilities Management will work to fix those, Ellis said.

We don't anticipate any other problems, Ellis said.
