55 Ward 7 residents, including at least 18 OU students, have registered to vote since March’s Norman City Council race, according to registration statistics from the Cleveland County Election Board.
By Friday’s deadline to register in the May Ward 7 runoff election, 55 citizens either registered as new voters or updated addresses to precincts within the ward district, according to the election board’s voter mailing list from March 1 to April 18.
According to the data, 41 residents registered to vote, while 14 Norman residents changed their addresses.
Ward 7 includes all of the OU campus, with borders from Boyd Street to Post Oak Road and Chautauqua Avenue to Classen Avenue.
In the March 1 election, 342 Ward 7 residents voted out of the 4,563 registered voters in the ward, or 7.5 percent.
There was no clear majority winner in the election when May candidate Linda Lockett received 164 votes, or 47.9 percent, while fellow candidate Stephen Tyler Holman and former candidate Brande Kauffman both received 89 votes. Lockett would have won had she gotten eight more votes.
Holman and Lockett are both former OU students, Holman having taken classes in the 2006-2007 school year and Lockett having graduated with a business degree in 1960.
The runoff election will take place May 10.
