“With the sixth pick in the 2011 WNBA draft, the San Antonio Silver Stars select Danielle Robinson, from the University of Oklahoma.”

Those words, spoken by WNBA Chief of Operations Renee Brown, will likely be ringing in the ears of former Sooner guard Danielle Robinson for years to come.

The senior All-American was the sixth pick in the first round of the WNBA Draft on Monday afternoon. She will join the likes of Becky Hammon and former Baylor standout Sophia Young in San Antonio.

Robinson ended her athletic career with OU this year, averaging 18.3 points per game and 5.1 assists.

Robinson is just one four players in the history of women's college basketball to have 2,000 points, 700 assists and 300 steals in a career.

Before the draft, she talked about where her focus was at the end of the season.

“I’m definitely looking forward to figuring out my next step and where its going to be,” Robinson said.

Robinson joins an impressive list of Sooners taken in the WNBA draft. Last year, Amanda Thompson, Nyeshia Stevenson and Abi Olajuwon were second and third-round selections, and Sooner greats Stacy Dales and LaNeisha Caufield were first-round choices in 2002.

The WNBA season begins June 4 for San Antonio, and the Silver Stars will play the Tulsa Shock on June 10 in Tulsa.
