Practice rooms are available in one of the residence halls on campus to give OU students and residents a place to practice.
Rodney Bates, Adams Center coordinator for Housing and Food Services, said the Muldrow Practice Room, located in the basement of the Muldrow tower of Adams Center, was installed to give the theatre majors, music majors and people who play instruments a place to practice.
“From my understanding, and from the survey the freshmen take at the end of the year, one of the things that Housing and Food Services thought would be good to have was the practice room within the residence areas,” Bates said.
According to the consent form, students need to sign up for the Muldrow Practice Rooms and reserve space in advance to keep the rooms available.
All students living in residence halls can make reservations by going to the Adams Center Office and signing up for the times they prefer to practice.
Guests are allowed as long as they are with a resident who has submitted the request to reserve the practice room and are OU students, said Lauren Royston, Housing and Food Services spokesperson.
According to the consent form, the residents can reserve the practice room for an hour at a time and will not be able to reserve spaces for more than a semester in advance.
Also, practice rooms are available for use from Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to midnight every day.
Music composition sophomore Atiba Williams said he plays an instrument called the steelpan, which is a percussion instrument that makes a loud noise, so he plans on going to the practice room twice a week for two hours.
“For musicians like me, who live in the dorms and want to practice, we don’t have to go all the way to the Catlett Music Center to practice any more,” Williams said.
According to the consent form, all students must have their OU student ID with them to use the practice rooms.
Students without their OU ID will be asked to leave and may return when they have it.
Students will leave their OU ID with Housing and Food Services faculty and staff in the Adams Center Office while using the practice rooms.
“A lot of the times, the walls here in the residence halls are somewhat thin and so we didn’t want the residents to complain about the noise, but we did want to try to accommodate a lot of the students that are involved with music and acting,” Bates said.
