Student volunteers needed for Hispanic Heritage Festival

The Norman Public Library is looking for volunteers to help with the eighth annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.

The library needs groups of two to six students working two- to three-hour shifts either day. Free food will be available and students can learn more about future volunteer opportunities.

Those interested in helping should contact the event’s co-chair Julie Myers at 405-701-2630 to coordinate volunteer times.

“A lot of people may not know why we hold the festival, but the library offers a lot of bilingual services. It introduces the library to Spanish-speakers, which can otherwise be a scary place,” Myers said.

The festival takes place at the library, 225 N. Webster Ave., and is free to the open public.

The gala starts 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 and the main portion of the festival takes place 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12.
