UOSA President Franz Zenteno, Integrity Council Chairwoman Elizabeth Miracle and Student Congress Chairman Brett Stidham discuss the appointments of Integrity Council members at the Student Congress meeting Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010.

The Undergraduate Student Congress approved the appointment of the UOSA Superior Court on Tuesday night.

The Superior Court oversees cases about violations to the UOSA Constitution, acts passed by the legislative branch and the student code, according to the Code Annotated.

Superior Court justices were appointed in the spring as interim justices during the summer, but the application process was opened up again in the fall for all students, UOSA President Franz Zenteno said.

Applicants went through an essay and interview process, Zenteno said. This semester, 12 to 13 people applied, which was narrowed down to five.

The appointment of the justices will now move to the Graduate Student Senate on Sunday night for final approval.

Congress also approved appointment of members to the Integrity Council, which oversees academic integrity at the campus.

Duties of the Council include informing students about academic integrity, as well as hearing cases about academic misconduct, Integrity Council chairwoman Elizabeth Miracle said.

Congress passed appointments to the Council with unanimous consent, which also will go to the Senate for final approval.

Senate members saw the bill Sept. 26, but voted to postpone it until Miracle could attend the meeting and answer questions.
