OU soccer held off Iowa State 4-3 Friday night in Ames, Iowa, before Missouri posted a late rally to down the Sooners 2-1 Sunday in Columbia, Mo.

The Sooners moved to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-2 in Big 12 action.

The Sooners are 3-3 on the road after winning just one game away from Norman in 2009. Junior Kelsey Kraft came up big for the Sooners on offense for the second weekend in a row, scoring two goals during the weekend’s games. Kraft scored the third goal in the contest at the 34:41 minute mark against the Cyclones, giving the Sooners a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Iowa State battled to score two goals during the second half of the action, but senior Whitney Palmer’s goal at the 54:59 minute mark lifted the Sooners past the Cyclones.

Palmer’s goal against ISU was the forward’s fourth goal of the season and 33rd of her career, bringing the closer to OU’s all-time career goals top spot. Currently Palmer sits in second position right behind Logan Womack (2000-03) who has 34 career goals.

OU’s Samantha Howell started the scoring action early at the 5:27 mark in the first half, and sophomore Caitlyn Mooney added her third goal of the season at the 20:24 minute mark.

The Sooners also saw help from several newcomers in the matchup against the Cyclones. Howell, a newcomer from Colleyville, Texas, was assisted on her second goal of the season by freshman defender Carrie Whigham, while Mooney was assisted by freshman forward Amy Petrikin.

Kraft came back during the second game of the weekend’s road games to put the Sooners up 1-0 during the first half of action against the Tigers. Kraft scored at the 43:16 mark while freshman Annalisa Hall picked her first assist of the year. Kraft’s goal was the only goal scored for the Sooners against the Tigers.

The Sooners looked in control of the game until the last minutes of Sunday’s contest. Missouri’s Alysha Bonnick scored her sixth goal of the season at the 84:35 minute mark before turning around and scoring the Tiger’s game-winning goal at the 86:03 mark.

Before the second half meltdown, the Sooners held off the Missouri offense that posted a 15-5 shot advantage over OU. Sooner goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire posted four saves in the opening half, but finished the game with seven saves and two goals allowed.

Following the pair of road games this weekend, the Sooners will host Frances Marion at 7p.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at John Crain Field before traveling to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 1p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10 in Lawerence, Kan.
