Stare Stare Stereo," a student-curated exhibit that opened Friday at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, 555 Elm St., explores the idea of taking two seemingly disparate photographs and finding similarities between them.
Student curators Lauren Barnes, Sherwin Tibayan and Ken Sims presented the exhibit Friday evening.
"By placing two images together, an immediate dichotomy is created," said Barnes, senior from Duncan. "A conversation of comparison and contrast is fostered, and an emphasis on looking and connoisseurship is elevated. This is the core objective of the exhibition."
The exhibition positions pairs of images from the museum's permanent collection for the viewer to analyze individually and then consider together. The blending of the two images can create the illusion of three dimensions.
"Because we are a university museum, OU students are our first audience," museum director Ghislain d'Humieres said. "When they ... get involved in selecting the works, designing an exhibition and presenting artwork in a new way, they connect in a much deeper way both with the art and with their visitors. Only in a university setting is this sort of connection possible."
The show will remain on view through May 15.
