Movie theaters like the Warren Theatre in Moore were packed with "Sex and the City" fans for the midnight release of "Sex and the City 2" on Thursday night.

Many payed homage to the fashion in the show by dressing their best. Some came in heels, while others wore flowers in their hair. The film is the second to be released since the HBO TV series ended in 2004.

The second film picks up where the first left off two years ago, and each of the four main characters have their own struggles to deal with.

Carrie deals with struggles in her two year marriage to Mr. Big; Charlotte struggles to take care of her two daughters, Lily and a new nanny; Miranda faces sexism at work; and Samantha deals with menopause.

When Samantha is offered an all-expenses-paid trip to Abu Dhabi, she takes the girls for a luxurious getaway filled with fashion and adventure.

The movie is rated R for strong sexual content and language, and is just under 2 1/2 hours. It features short cameos from Penélope Cruz, Miley Cyrus and Liza Minnelli.

John Corbett returns for the role of Aidan Shaw, the other man in Carrie’s life, and may stir up trouble for fans of Carrie and Mr. Big.

Courtney Jones, a recent OU graduate, attended the midnight screening of "Sex and the City 2" on Thursday night at Warren.

While many women became fans of "Sex and the City" after they watched the first movie, Jones and her friends were avid fans of the show before then.

The show lasted six seasons, with the final one being divided into two parts.

Jones owns the complete series featured inside a pink suede book that big fans of the show are familiar with.

Ashley Sawyer, elementary education junior, got hooked on the show after she saw the first movie. Sawyer’s mom used to watch the show, and after seeing the movie with friends, she was sold. Sawyer has now seen every episode of the series.

It’s not uncommon for fans to compare themselves to the four leading women of the show, saying, “I’m a Charlotte,” or “I’m a Carrie.”

Jones said people tell her she’s a Samantha, who ironically shares her same last name.

“We’re alike in some of the things she says, but not in our actions or the way she acts on the show,” Jones said.

Kristiana Baez, international security studies sophomore, said her friends compare each other to the characters’ personalities on the show. Baez bought each of her friends’ tickets so the girls could attend the screening together.

During the course of 98 episodes, "Sex and the City" was nominated for 50 Emmy awards. In 2007, Time Magazine listed "Sex and the City" as one of the 100 best TV shows of all-time.

The movie has took in $3 million from the midnight screenings, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The second film is a must see for fans of the show, but even those who are not fans will enjoy the fashion, humor and a story about a strong bond between friends.
