Pack away your sweaters, hoodies, long pants and beanies, people, it’s summer movie time. The following is a list of my top five movies coming out in the next six weeks. My hope is that after reading this list, the horrendous feeling of sitting through horrible movies while your wallet gets thinner and thinner is completely destroyed — or at least subdued a bit.
“Sex and The City 2” (Today)
Synopsis: Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda are back to up on the silver screen. “Sex and The City 2” follows the quartet as they try to decipher what their lives have transformed into after marriage. Feeling the pressure of aging and motherhood, the girls take off to Abu Dhabi in search of a little R&R. While there, the newlywed Carrie runs into an old fling, which sets off new sparks.
What I think: If you’re a die-hard “SATC” follower, then this is definitely a must-see. And guys, if you’re looking to score major brownie points with your girlfriend, wife, date, potential lover, sister (weird) or mother (weirder), then take them to see this. Sequels rarely live up to the success of their predecessors, and I don’t see “Sex and The City 2” contradicting that statement.
Bottom Line: Great movie for fanatics and dates. Otherwise, I’d say skip it.
“The A-Team” (June 11)
Synopsis: Four wrongly accused war criminals, Hannibal, Faceman, B.A. Baracus and H.M. Murdock, escape from military prison with the objective of suppressing evil and taking down the ever-menacing bad guys. Tagging themselves as “soldiers of fortune,” the A-Team is on a constant search of who is responsible for framing them. While being chased by pretty much every law enforcement agent possible, the A-Team must go rogue to stop any future wrong doings and evil acts from happening.
What I think: “If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire ... The A-Team.” How much sweeter does it get? The A-Team is back together, recklessly hunting down bad guys and thwarting their evil plans of destruction and doom. While the movie itself doesn’t look like it will contain the best acting of all time (hell, one of the main actors is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter), the action-packed preview has enough blood, sweat, guns and violence to spark any action lover’s interest. From blowing up an armored car to shooting planes out of the sky whilst trapped in a free-falling tank, “The A-Team” is sure to be a thrill ride of fun for everybody.
Bottom line: Go!
Toy Story 3 (June 18)
Synopsis: After an almost 11 year hiatus, Andy’s mischievous toys are back at it again. But this time, Andy won’t be there as he’s off to college. After being sent to a day care center, the toys encounter new challenges, including pestering toddlers and annoying new toys (including Barbie and Ken). After losing Woody, the toys must band together to save him.
What I think: Personally, I’m psyched about this movie. I grew up on “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2,” and I’ve been waiting for the past decade to see this. While it’s obviously geared toward children and toddlers, I think that it will also have a lasting effect on the children of the ’90s. The people who grew up on “Toy Story” and are expecting a lot out of this final chapter, I expect “Toy Story 3” to be a blockbuster movie that catapults the “Toy Story” franchise into immortality.
Bottom line: I honestly think this will be the biggest hit of the summer, so go see it.
“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” (June 30)
Synopsis: “Twilight” is back again with the third of four installments in the series. Bella in grave danger. However, she’s too caught up to notice because of her affinity with a constipated looking vampire and a freakishly matured 17-year-old werewolf. With Victoria hot on her trail, Bella must formulate a plot to not only solve her matter of life and death, but her relationship with mythical beings as well.
What I think: Honestly, I can’t stand “Twilight.” Being a film major and seeing acting like that praised and rewarded the way it is makes me sick. But I can’t deny that the storyline is somewhat enticing. I guess you could chalk it up to having sisters, cousins and aunts shoving it down my throat. You could put “Eclipse” in the same boat as “Sex In The City 2,” seeing that the majority of the audience will be freakishly committed fanatics (i.e. my family) and guys who are trying to impress a girl.
Bottom line: See it, if not for the subject matter, at least for the (not so) cheap laughs.

Whoa, I like how the reviews are written from a college students perspective- it has lots of personality and made me literally LOL. MUCH better than reading a 'hollywood' review that is way too technical and trying to appease the masses. I like the way the author has described Bella's clan of misfits and look forward to torchering my nephew to this third installment of Twilight this Summer- yesss!!!
