Norman to host public meeting about becoming drought-ready
by   |  May 25, 2010  |

A town hall meeting about a new drought-ready communities program will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the National Weather Center, 120 David L. Boren Blvd.

The Oklahoma Climatological Survey is launching the program through the National Drought Mitigation Center and Illinois State Water Survey. Norman is one of the nation's first communities asked to participate, according to a press release for the Climatological Survey

Becoming drought-ready involves gathering information about water sources and uses along with developing a leadership team, local monitoring process, communication plan, community education and outreach, and a drought response plan, according to the release.

The meeting will include discussions on how drought could affect Norman and a presentation of support materials being developed.

The meeting is open to the public. Anyone who wishes to attend is asked to register in advance by calling the Climatological Survey at 405-325-2541 or by e-mailing drought@mesonet.org.
