The Sooners signed Calvin Newell, a 6-0 guard from Philadelphia, Pa., and Abdi Ahmed, a 6-10, 210-pound center from the Canarias Basketball Academy in the Canary Islands.

Newell averaged 26.1 points per game at Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte, N.C., last season. As a high school senior in 2008-09 season, he averaged 29.4 points per game at Strath Haven High School.
