Track and Field: Ash wins national title for Sooners

OU concludes indoor track season at indoor championships

Eight Sooner Track and Field athletes received All-American honors at the 46th annual NCAA Indoor Championships.

The men’s team finished fourteenth overall while the women finished twenty-first. The Sooner competed in front of 5475 fans.

Junior Ronnie Ash won the 60-meter hurdle Championship title for the second year in a row. Ash ran the third fastest time for an American this year in the race preliminaries with a time of 7.55.

Ash beat the second place runner by two hundredths of a second in the finals. He won the event with a time of 7.56.

Red shirt junior K.P. Singh won OU’s first All-American title in the men’s weight throw. Singh finished seventh in the event.

Two Sooner athletes were named All-American in the women’s shot put. Red Shirt Freshmen Karen Shump and Tia Brooks finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Junior Scottesha Miller finished eighth in the sixty meter dash and received All-American honors for the fifth time in her career.

Junior Eric Harasyn finished ninth in the men’s mile. The Sooner 4x400 relay finished tenth nationally. The team included: junior Remuro Henry, senior Zach Dawson, senior Jarell Warren and junior Eric Bailey.

Junior Jasmine Simmons finished tenth in the triple jump.

The Outdoor Track and Field season begins with its first competition, the Tulsa Duels, on March 20th.
