by   |  March 8, 2010  |

The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team heads out west for the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational hosted by San Jose State. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the 6,223 yard, par-72 Almaden Country Club in San Jose, Calif. First and second round play will begin today, March 8, followed by the final round on Tuesday, March 9.

The tournament will have a 16-team field that will feature host San Jose State, California (ranked No. 12 by Golfweek), Oklahoma State (No. 22), Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Nevada, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Irvine and UC Davis. The Sooners will enter the tournament with the same lineup they featured last week. This marks the first time OU will play with the same lineup for two consecutive tournaments.

Senior Andrea Sellmeyer will lead the Sooners coming off a career-best 13th-place finish, shooting a three-round total of 224 (+8), last week at the UCF challenge. Junior Ellen Mueller is also in the lineup due to her strong play. Mueller notched her 13th top-20 finish of her career last week, shooting a total of 226 (+10) to finish tied for 17th.

Senior Chelsey Collins and sophomore Brooke Collins will play in back-to-back tournaments. Freshman Taylor Schmidt will compete in her sixth consecutive tournament.

“I am very excited about having this group of girls on the road again,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin said. “If we play solid golf like I know we can, we should be able to have a good finish at this tournament.”

The Sooners are coming off a 9th place finish among a 17-team field at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla. last week. The Sooners collectively shot a 54-over par 918.
