Men's golf finishes second down in Texas
by   |  March 8, 2010  |

Playing in San Antonio, Texas, a month ago, things could not seem to get much worse for the OU men’s golf team.

Having matched their season-worst result with a 12th-place finish at the Oak Hills Invitational, the Sooners needed a spark.

That spark came in the form of senior Tyler Rody.

After closing the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 23 with a 3-under-par 69 to lead the team to a 10th-place finish and its best round of the season, Rody once again produced some of his best golf to help OU finish in second place at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.

With a 54-hole total of 217 (+1), Rody paced the Sooners to their best finish of the spring and a personal-best, fourth-place honor.

Senior Ben Blundell capped off the tournament tied for 20th after a three-round total of 222 (+6). He was joined by redshirt sophomore Riley Pumphrey, who continued his recent hot streak with his third-consecutive top-25 finish.

Junior Liam Logan finished in a tie for 28th, and freshman Nathan Chambers took home a share of 47th place to round out the Sooners’ rotation.

OU ended the tournament just four strokes behind champion Texas State, which finished with three of the top-eight golfers on the individual leaderboard.

After their runner-up showing in Laredo, the Sooners will return to play March 15 and 16 at the Bulldog Classic in Choudrant, La.
